They did use to be a cool band, before they rode the screamo/emo bandwaggon like on their current album... sad to see a good band go to waste.
I love this band in fact just got my tix in the mail yesterday..going to see Green day and My Chemical Romance in april with the kids. I'm looking foward to it.
"What's a 'screamo/emo bandwagon'?"
Atreyu, etc... its whats "cool" right now, runs along the same rails as the pop punk thing, but its the next level.
<font size="4" face="Arial">i have to disagree with you on this. i don't think my chemical romance has changed their sound as much as their sound just turned into the 'thing' to like lately. are you going to tell me vampires or honey are not right along the lines of anything they released on three cheers? headfirst or halos could easily be i'm not ok complete with the screaming of think happy thoughts. i seen MCR a few times over the past couple years. they used to play kind of regularly around here before they signed with WB. they have always sounded the same.Originally posted by Raiven Vainn:

i also wouldn't put them in the screamo category. they are more along the lines of a yellowcard then an atreyu. more rock, punk, pop while screamo bands tend to lean towards the hardcore sound. (and i use the hardcore term very loosely) with screamo bands you usually have two singers, one who 'tries' to sing and then the screamer/growler ie. atreyu, from first to last, stroy of the year, finch, etc... MCR only has one singer, and just because he might scream some of the words in a song does not make them screamo, that would be like calling marilyn manson screamo, manson does a lot more screaming then gerard.
it just like how hanoi rocks got lumped into the glam/big hair genre due to the fact that it was the in thing at the time. they had nothing to do with it.
and for those who care, i just caught atreyu again on thursday in philly. great show, better then the last time they played up here. i even passed on two tickets and vip passes for motley crue in nyc for it, i'm sure i made carl proud with that move. =)
lamb of god on monday night.
It isnt so much the SCREAMING thats the focus.
The whole "I'm Not Ok (I Promise)" falls way into the sodden depths of Emo.
The music previous to the latest album wasnt as wussy... it had a gothic edge to the lyrics, which I feel it has lost. In favour of angst ridden emo-esque lyrics.
Its more about what they are screaming than how much.
the lyrics on bullets are just as emo if not more emo then on three cheers.
"And I think I'll blow my brains against the ceiling
And as the fragments of my skull begin to fall
Fall on your tongue like pixie dust just think happy thoughts"
"From the times that I've killed you and then
We can wash down this engagement ring
With poison and kerosene
We'll laugh as we die
And we'll celebrate the end of things
With cheap champagne"
"You'll invest yourself in me, we're not working out
And you can't touch my brother and you can't keep my friends
and we're not working out, we're not working out
This time I mean it, never mind the times I've seen it"
"But does anyone notice?
But does anyone care?
And if I had the guts to put this to your head...
But would anything matter if you're already dead?
And should I be shocked now by the last thing you said?
Before I pull this trigger,
Your eyes vacant and stained..."
"A temporary stand-in for your face
It happens all the time
And I can't help but think I'll die alone"
the whole bullets release is like this. the only thing that changed is the quality of the product. you can tell bullets was an indie and three cheers is a major by the production. they also got a makeover but most if not all bands do once they go to a major label.
The MCR cd is what I have listened to the most in the last three months. Gonna see them with the used in about two weeks.
When people say "Emo", I still think of skinny comedians with bowl haircuts.
Dumbest name for a music style in the history of music.
'Emo' is TXT generation slang for 'emotional'?
Iss like, I like, kind of like, diden even
know that, innit. Derrrr.
